Palo Verde College “fast track” nursing program right on schedule
Palo Verde College introduced a new nursing program this fall to reduce the time students need to complete the LVN (licensed vocation nurse) program.
The Fast Track LVN program was approved by the Palo Verde College board of trustees and the California Board of Licensed Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). It is a rigorous program of study that requires students to attend classes five days a week (39 hours) beginning with the fall semester and continuing through the spring and summer semes-ters. The regular LVN program takes one and a half years to complete.
The first class of 15 students began studies in August and is finishing the first semester without losing a member. They will begin the second semester in January and complete the program at the end of the summer session in July. Recruitment for the next class, which begins in August 2005, will start during the spring 2005 semester.
PVC nursing professors Mickey Miranda-Copple, RN, and Derek Copple, RN, are the main instructors for the program. Classes include anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, nutrition and nursing. Clinic sites include Blythe Nursing Care Center, Palo Verde Hospital, La Paz Regional Hospital and Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center.
Members of the charter class are: Amy Bolton, Gal Cox, Alicia Montes, Joy McMillin, Cheryl Cox, Ana Soria, Desiree Tennefos, Bobbi Wood, Erica Clark, Diana Rosas, Paola Juarez, Erin Fisher, Carmen Gomez, Anjela Bavaro and Annamaria Valenzuela.
For more information on the program, call the PVC nursing office at (760) 921-5504, or visit the PVC website at www.paloverde.edu.
