Don Kuykendall Child Development Center
The Nurtury
The Palo Verde College Don Kuykendall Child Development Center is a non-profit organization, operated on a non-discriminatory basis and gives equal treatment and access to services without regard to race, color, creed, religion, origin, or ancestry. It is sponsored by the Palo Verde Community College District and is located on 557 North Lovekin. The DKCDC, a licensed facility since 1975, was established to meet the needs of increasing numbers of working parents, parents in training, and parents enrolled at PVC. The center provides reliable quality preschool services to children of parents who could not otherwise seek and maintain employment due to parenting responsibilities. To coincide with the hours of working parents and the class schedules of students, parents arrange times with the Program Supervisor, Maria Kehl, for the number of hours they need to leave the child in the Program. Parent visitation to the center is encouraged during lunch breaks and other convenient times for the parent. This is important since most children are from single parent families. The center operates twelve months a year, and its open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Program serves children between the ages of two years-nine months and five years old. |

The Program
The Program provides enriched activities which enhance the child's ability to respect the rights and feelings of others, to learn to share, to give them an opportunity to make judgments and decisions, thus increasing a positive self-concept and personal strength in individual or small group activities.
The educational program is designed to help children develop socially and cognitively through the pre-school years until age 5. Communication skills are brought about by developing in the child an awareness of his /her own self-expression and thoughts through interaction with other children and teachers in a safe, warm, friendly and healthy environment that allows the teachers to observe each child's development to the fullest.
The program is geared to teach each child choices in judgments and decisions, which will help prepare them for living in the community. The Palo Verde College Don Kuykendall Child Development Center is an excellent environment in which to prepare children for the diversity they are likely to encounter as they grow, enter school, and seek fulfillment as adults.
