Foster Youth
The Foster Youth Success Initiative
(FYSI) was created to help current and/or former youth from foster care succeed in college.
You are most likely eligible for this program if one or more of the following applies to you:

You are currently in foster care.

You lived in a foster home or group home at any time.

A judge/court had you live with a friend, relative or someone who was not your biological parent.

If you have ever participated in a Transitional Living Program (TLP) or Independent Living Program (ILP).
Did you know you may be eligible for $$$ for college?
All you need to do is:

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov using PVC’s school code: 001259 (We can help you apply online).

Complete the Chafee Application Form at www.chafee.csac.ca.gov (We can help you apply online).

Apply for admission to Palo Verde College.
Just say, “I’m interested in the Chafee!” We are ready to help!
If you qualify for this program, you will have a dedicated Student Financial Services Foster Youth Success Liaison!
Who is a FYSI Liaison?
A Foster Youth Success Initiative Liaison is someone who:
-
Understands your situation.
-
Is sensitive to your needs and challenges.
-
Will help link you to the support services and resources throughout the college and community.

Assist you with completing your FAFSA.
Your FYSI Liaison will:
-
Assist you with completing other financial aid paperwork and documents such as the Chafee application, scholarships and more!

Connect you with on-campus and off-campus resources such as EOPS, CARE, DSPS, child care, CalWorks, and assistance in obtaining a GED.

Connect you to an Academic Counselor who will assist you in creating a Student Educational Plan (SEP) that will maximize your financial aid benefit and much more!
