PUBLIC NOTICE

VACANCY ON THE PALO VERDE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Pursuant to Education Code Section 5091, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a vacancy has occurred on the Palo Verde Community College District Board of Trustees, effective November 2, 2025, due to the passing of Trustee Dr. George Thomas. Dr. Thomas faithfully served the District and the Palo Verde Valley community with integrity, dedication, and a deep commitment to education.

At the November 18, 2025, Regular Meeting of the Palo Verde Community College District Board of Trustees, the Board voted to fill the vacancy by provisional appointment through an open application process. The Palo Verde Community College District is now accepting applications from individuals interested in being considered for this appointment. The appointee will hold office until December 2026, completing the remainder of the vacated term. The next Statewide General Election for this seat will occur in November 2026 (Education Code §5091[e]).

Paper copies are also available in the Superintendent/President’s Office at Palo Verde College, One College Drive, Blythe, CA. The Palo Verde Community College District Board of Trustees is composed of seven members elected to serve for four-year terms. Five of the Trustees are elected at large from the part of the District in Riverside County. Two of the Trustees are elected at large from the part of the District in San Bernardino County. The terms of Trustees are staggered with elections in even numbered years. In addition, there is a student Trustee who is elected by the District students.

The Board has responsibility for setting Board policy, overseeing fiscal stability, and establishing an effective educational program for the students and the community.

Regular meetings will be held in Assembly Room (CL 101) in the Classroom/Lab Building at the college campus located at One College Drive, Blythe, California on the second Tuesday of each month beginning at 4:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Special Meeting/Study Sessions, if needed, will be scheduled on the fourth Tuesday of the month and will begin at 4:00 p.m. Special Meetings may be called as needed. Meetings will be held in Needles, California, at the Palo Verde College Needles Center, 725 W. Broadway, as determined by the Board of Trustees.
