Welcome to the ASG page

Palo Verde College’s Associated Student Government (ASG) is committed to fostering student leadership, commitment, and development. Your ASG Officers advocate for all students of PVC by tackling issues and concerns that impact the student body.

President
Robert Hope Murillo

Ahoy!! Fellow pirates and future tiny ones as well! This is your current president of ASG for 2025-2026 Robert Hope Murillo speaking. I am happy to serve Palo Verde College as a leader for our new upcoming semesters ahead of us. My pronouns are He/Him-They/Them. I am non-binary Transman who have the best of both world of being indigenous along with being Mexican. Of course, I have my struggles with my disability but no matter what that never stopped me striving to be the best of myself and seeing life with love along with kindness.
As a person who has been through hardships within life, my goal is to make every student at PVC have a safe haven/home on our campus while studying and learning hard for their successful pathway of becoming whatever their educational desire is. This means making sure their voices are heard, stories are truly seen and making sure they feel welcome within our campus community no matter what their background, religion, race, sexuality and gender is you, will be heard and your rights will be fought for by me along with my other ASG members.
I’m studying to become a Clinical therapist for children along with adults, as well as working towards my Psy.D to become a doctor within my field. I do have child development under my belt due to wanting to work with children within my own classroom.
I encourage all students to come to our ASG meetings every Tuesday at 11:00AM to listen to upcoming information, news or announcements from clubs or even professors as well. If you ever need someone to hear your problems or a shoulder to lean on, I'm your person. You’ll always catch me on the campus running around doing errands, working for PVC, or even studying. Perhaps if you're lucky, when I have time, I’ll show my true self with creative hobbies. That’s if I have time, of course.
Please remember you are loved, you are truly seen, and you will do such amazing things within this life. Please never give up, you are important. Make sure to take care of your mental/physical health and reach out if life gets too tough. We do have hotlines for mental health on PVC. You are never alone. Once a pirate, always a pirate. You are family, you are safe within this campus, and I will along with the other ASG members will do everything within our power to make sure PVC will stand with its glory by making sure its students gets what they need in order to become successful within their Pirate Pathway. Thank you for listening. Have a safe wonderful day fellow beautiful soul.

Vice President
Lillian Jones

Hello, my fellow students of Palo Verde College! My name is Lillian Jones and this school year I will be serving you as your Vice President. Right now, I am majoring in English, and Arts and Humanities, but I plan on going into Creative Writing when I transfer. I have a passion for art and all creative things, and I can’t go anywhere without my handy sketchbook. Feel free to ask me what I am making; I’m always up to something and I love to share. I wanted to be in ASG because I was in this last year, and I want to continue the conversations we started, along with continuing to speak out on problems students might face in Blythe and Needles. I hope to serve as a mentor for our new officers this year and have more fun events. Please, if you have a problem or questions, come see me or the other officers. We are planning on having events throughout the school year, so keep a look out for our bulletin boards!

Secretary
Kayla Barnett

Hello everyone! My name is Kayla Davis Barnett, and I am more than excited to serve as your ASG secretary for the 2025-26 academic year! To share a bit about me, I am currently going into my second year, pursuing degrees in psychology, social & behavioral sciences, and arts & humanities! What my future holds is unknown, which makes it exciting! I am passionate about people and relationships, so if all goes well, I will pursue a career where I can explore that passion. I love to have fun, meet people, make connections, and make memories! Here, I’d like to express my sincere appreciation for the opportunity to be a part of your student government, because I care very deeply about the well-being of each and every student that I share this campus with. As a new college student, I entered PVC with anticipation of what was to come. I feared change and was unsure of my direction, but finding my way was not so hard once I looked around! When I first enter an unfamiliar environment, the first thing I notice is the people who are avid members of that community. I admire the faces of those who I consistently see getting involved and helping others feel comfortable. The faces of people that you expect to be at events or that you know can answer your questions. I was inspired by my peers at PVC to put myself out there and have a positive impact on the campus space. I was inspired to be one of those faces that had helped me through so much change! As your Secretary, I will always be here to uplift and support the passions of my peers. I look forward to sharing this space with all of you, so please tell me what’s up when you see me around! You can’t miss me. :)

Business Manager
Yvonne Andrade

Hello Palo Verde students! My name is Yvonne Andrade. I will be the new ASG Business Manager for this 2025/2026 school year.  I am very passionate about standing up for our students' rights. I have learned this past year to speak up for our rights if you have any sort of problem. I hope you find me or any other ASG member so we can help you work it out. I am currently working on my AA in psychology and want to transfer to UCSD to further my education. I was not an ASG member last year, but I still attended the meetings. I encourage all students to do the same. Remember this is our school and your voice matters.  I am a mom of 3 and soon to be 4. I am working towards a better future for my kids and me. I love to read, crochet, and go to church. I am hoping to make a difference and bring a lot of good ideas for events to school this year.

Student Trustee
Melina Rangel Ruz

Hello fellow students, my name is Melina Rangel Ruiz, and I’m proud to serve as this year’s student trustee. I’m currently majoring in Psychology, and I’ve been actively involved on campus through the Puente program as secretary, in ASG as commissioner of publicity, and I’ll be launching a new club called The Healing Circle starting this fall 2025. I ran for student trustee because I deeply believe in the power of student voices to shape the policies that impact our education, well-being, and future. My goal is to serve as a bridge between students and the Board ensuring transparency, strong advocacy, and meaningful support for all members of our student body. I’m excited for this opportunity and truly look forward to learning from each of you, collaborating on key decisions, and contributing meaningfully to our shared mission. Thank you again for the opportunity to serve as your Student Trustee. It truly is an honor.
