Palo Verde College (PVC) 2024-2025 freshman standout Brookelynn Thomas will continue
to build on academic and on-court success this upcoming season, as the Pirates’ star
accepted a basketball scholarship on May 16 to play for LaSierra University in 2025-2026.
The 5’9” PVC guard/forward freshman – who’s originally from Las Vegas, Nev. – made
history with the signing, becoming the first women’s Pirates scholar-athlete to earn
a full-ride basketball scholarship in program history.
“Brookelynn Thomas came here to Palo Verde College from Las Vegas with her Associate
of Arts Degree and her High School Diploma,” stated PVC. “She graduated with honors
from Mater East Academy in 2024. Upon arriving to Palo Verde College(,) she was the
team’s leading scorer averaging 16.2 (PPG [Points Per Game]), 6.4 rebounds per game
and 4 assists per game( – w)hich earned her 1st Team All Conference and she was offered
and accepted a Basketball Scholarship to LaSierra University (an NCAA Division 2 School)
located in Riverside, California.”
As noted in PVC Pirates’ official player profile, Thomas started in 27 of the 2024-2025
seasons’ games – logging 674 minutes, 25 minutes per game, 178 total rebounds (79
offensive; 99 defensive), 48 assists, 47 steals, with a 69.3 free-throw percentage,
and 394 points.
Notably, Thomas had other offers as well but chose the LaSierra Golden Eagles.
Leadership in attendance for the signing included PVC Athletics Director Ryan Copple;
PVC Pirates head coach Derrick Jackson; and former City of Blythe Vice Mayor Beverly
Mays.
“Brookelynn is the essential Student/Athlete and she will major in Computer Science
with a minor in Chemical Engineering when she enrolls at LaSierra University this
Fall,” noted PVC.
